Every week we read a new Torah portion. This allows us to study the entire 5 books of Moses over either a one or three year cycle. Tradtionally there a portion commentaries that are published and people read them and then think about them. Rarely are people allowed to opine (give their insights, opinions or occasional moments of revelation).
The purpose of this forum is to allow you to share your thoughts. Our Rabbinic intern Shimon has to write a Dvar Torah as part of his ongoing practise and preparation. But in keeping with our tradition, and wishing to make the study of the Torah more personal and relevant we have decided to create a forum. How it will work is really simple. A
Dvar will be published every week. This will highlight a lesson, or insight that can be gained from the parshah (Torah portion). But as we are all part of a community, and our tradtition is not one handed from on high, but represents a more inclusive vision for humanity then we are challenged to also step up and take ownership. You are invited to contribute thoughts, insights, poetry, open questions, literally anything that contributes to discussion and study of the portion.
The only condition is that content is respectful of the Torah, and of our community. We seek to lift our sparks upon high, not sink low. So we ask that views that might push one particular denomination over another be avoided. But where such discussion allows for us to all meet in community then it is most welcome.
So let us create a virtual Beit Midrash, and show that we here in SE Queensland and Norther NSW are keeping the flame of Torah alive. In each of our hearts, and in our own personal Sinai. And that way we keep the Burning Bush of Knowledge and Enlightenment burning for each generation. And let us together put the Jew back into Judaism.
